Basketball legend Kobe Bryant died on Sunday in a helicopter crash in Southern California. He was 41 years old. The retired Lakers star’s teenage daughter Gianna also died in the accident, which authorities said may have been caused by bad weather. Tributes have poured in from across the globe. The standoff over impeachment witnesses took a new twist. Former national security adviser John Bolton reportedly alleges in his upcoming book that Trump explicitly wanted to freeze aid to Ukraine until officials agreed to investigate the Bidens, undercutting the president’s claim that there was no quid pro quo. Democrats ratcheted up calls for Bolton to testify in the Senate impeachment trial, which continues this week. The New York Times

A fifth case of coronavirus was confirmed in the U.S. All the patients had recently traveled to China, where almost 3,000 people have been infected. The CDC said it’s treating the outbreak as a serious threat, but that the immediate risk to Americans is low. CNN
