The FDA approved the first rapid coronavirus test. It can detect the pathogen in about 45 minutes — much faster than the current testing protocol, which can take days. The rapid tests will be sent to hospitals next week. Reuters

Hard-hit areas like New York and California are restricting testing to health-care workers and the most vulnerable. “Every time we test someone who doesn’t need one, we’re taking that mask and gown away from someone in the intensive care unit,” said a New York official.
