“We’re past the point of containment.”

The coronavirus fight entered a new phase this weekend, as top U.S. health officials warned that we've moved past “containment” and into “mitigation.” “We’re looking at two months, probably, of difficulty,” said Dr. Scott Gottlieb, former commissioner of the FDA. The news came as confirmed cases in the U.S. topped 500 across at least 34 states. Los Angeles Times

A cruise ship being held off the California coast that's carrying at least 21 infected passengers is expected to dock in Oakland today. All 3,500 people on board will undergo a 14-day quarantine. ABC News

Meanwhile, Italy placed roughly 16 million people under lockdown across the country's north, including Milan and Venice. In an unprecedented move, the government restricted travel and banned all public gatherings — weddings, funerals, concerts, sporting events, and even Mass — until April 3. The Atlantic

And in China, at least 10 people were killed when a hotel being used as a quarantine center collapsed on Saturday night. Eighty people were inside the building when it came down, and 23 remain unaccounted for. CNN

President Trump has a new chief of staff. Rep. Mark Meadows of North Carolina, one of Trump’s most loyal congressional allies, will be the fourth person in the role in just over three years. He’s replacing Mick Mulvaney, who is being appointed the U.S. special envoy to Northern Ireland. The Washington Post

Kamala Harris endorsed Joe Biden, becoming the latest 2020 candidate to back the former vice president. “Joe Biden has served our country with dignity and we need him now more than ever,” the California senator said on Twitter. POLITICO
