The House dials up the drama

The Judiciary Committee began formally considering the articles of impeachment, and things got heated fast: Republicans called the inquiry a “political hit job,” while Democrats accused President Trump of a “constitutional crime spree.” And those were just the opening statements; expect even more fireworks today. Meanwhile, over in the Senate, the Justice Department’s inspector general testified that the FBI was justified in opening its 2016 investigation into the Trump campaign — but that the bureau committed serious errors in its execution. Those findings give both Republicans and Democrats more ammunition in the never-ending Russia saga. The Washington Post

Harvey Weinstein reached a tentative deal that would reportedly pay out $25 million to dozens of his alleged victims of sexual misconduct — but not require him to admit wrongdoing. The settlement still requires court approval and Weinstein faces a separate criminal trial in January. The New York Times

British voters head to the polls today in the third general election in five years. The outcome will either pave the way for the UK to leave the European Union under Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s plan, or potentially upend Brexit altogether. Reuters
