A controversial time-out

After an ugly debate over the articles of impeachment stretched late into the night, House Judiciary Committee chairman Jerry Nadler unexpectedly delayed the vote until 10 a.m. EST this morning. NPR

The move enraged Republicans, who accused Nadler of changing the schedule to maximize media attention. Representative Doug Collins called it “the most bush league stunt” he’d ever seen. Democrats claim GOP members intentionally dragged out discussion so the votes would come when no one was watching. CNN Politics

Democrats are still on track for a full House vote on impeachment next week.

Boris Johnson secured a decisive victory in yesterday’s UK general election, with the Conservative Party trouncing Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party. The result means Brexit will almost certainly happen Johnson’s way — so expect the divorce at the end of January.

Trump’s team and China have reportedly reached an initial trade deal that would halt tariffs set to take effect Sunday on $160 billion of Chinese goods. The news, though unconfirmed by Beijing, sent U.S. stocks to record highs. The Wall Street Journal
