The president offered a bleak message for Americans: Prepare for a “very painful” two weeks. Top health officials presented models projecting as many as 240,000 people dying in the U.S. in the coming months, even under the current restrictions. Trump called following social-distancing guidelines “a matter of life and death.” Reuters

The CDC is considering whether to advise Americans to wear nonmedical masks in public, after data showed asymptomatic people are transmitting the disease. It would be a reversal: Officials had previously said healthy people shouldn’t wear masks, in part to prevent a run on critical supplies. NPR

Rent is due today for many Americans affected by the wave of layoffs and furloughs, and the real estate industry is bracing for impact. U.S. stocks yesterday closed out their worst quarter since the financial crisis. Bloomberg
