A busy day on Capitol Hill

The House voted to boost stimulus checks to $2,000, after President Trump said the $600 payments included in the new coronavirus-relief bill were too small. The proposal will now head to the Senate, where its fate is uncertain. The Washington Post

Lawmakers in the House also voted to override Trump’s veto of the defense policy bill. If the upper chamber follows suit, it will be the first legislation to become law over the president’s objections. The Wall Street Journal

President-elect Biden said his transition team has encountered “roadblocks” from political leaders at multiple agencies, particularly in the national-security sphere: “We just aren’t getting all of the information that we need.” The Hill

Police officer Adam Coy, who shot Andre Hill in Columbus, Ohio, last week, has been fired. Coy killed Hill, who was Black, just seconds after responding to a non-emergency disturbance call. Hill was unarmed. CNN
