Thousands gathered around the country to mourn George Floyd following a memorial service in Minneapolis. Rev. Al Sharpton called Floyd’s death symbolic of centuries of racial injustice in America: "It’s time for us to stand up in George’s name and say, 'Get your knee off our necks.'" The Washington Post

The American Civil Liberties Union and Black Lives Matter are suing over the Trump administration’s use of force against peaceful demonstrators near the White House ahead of the president’s visit to a local church. CNN Politics

A judge ruled that the case of Ahmaud Arbery, the black jogger killed in Georgia, will go to trial. At the same hearing, an investigator testified that the gunman — one of three white men charged with Arbery’s murder — was heard using a racial slur after the shooting. CBS News

Buffalo police are investigating an incident where officers shoved a 75-year-old protester to the ground, causing a serious head injury. BuzzFeed News

Two major COVID-19 studies were retracted. The authors of the papers — one of which found that the antimalarial drug touted by Trump was dangerous for hospitalized patients — requested the retractions after the company that provided the dataset refused to participate in an independent review.
