The House voted 232 to 197 to impeach Trump for “incitement of insurrection” after last week’s siege of the Capitol, making him the first president in U.S. history to be impeached twice. Ten Republicans joined the Democrats in support of the charge. The Washington Post

The earliest a Senate trial would begin is January 19, which means the bulk of the proceedings will happen once Biden is president. Mitch McConnell signaled he’d be open to voting against Trump — who, if convicted, could then be barred from running for office again. Vox
